XLCue Visualization

Page history last edited by aff@... 15 years, 1 month ago

XLCue's Visualization feature lets you view information about a single cue arranged in 2D space however you choose, instead of in the linear spreadsheet format.

Visualization exists primarily as a gimmick, a little toy to play with.  If anyone has a serious, practical use for it, the the XLCue development team (see XLCue Project: Who It Is, How To Help) would be interested to know.

With that caveat, the flexibility of Visualization is kind of fun- try drawing a little stick figure, then set things up so back light illuminates (and colors) the top of the head and shoulders, front light "hits" the face, and footlights follow the underside of the body...

Visualization Setup:  The Visualizer Template

The Visualizer Template is a worksheet showing the outline of how you want your Visualizer worksheet to look  You can put text in some cells, use borders, draw stick figures, etc., as long as you don't delete the Previous Cue and Next Cue buttons, and the Cue: label (but you can move and resize them all you want).  Each time you Visualize a Cue, the Template Visualizer worksheet is completely restored from the Template before values and colors are added.

Below is an example Template.  Using the example show we looked at while learning about the CueList, we can see that this Template is set up to show our three zones of front and top light, and our three specials.  The specials will display both an intensity and settings of their attached moving mirrors manipulated by Automation Controls.

Visualization Setup: The Cue List

While setting up the Controls in our CueList, we skipped over the "Visualizer Cell(s)" section in row 4.  Here we've filled in values appropriate for the Template shown above.  For each Control, any cell indicated in the Visualizer Cells row will take on both the value and color of the Visualized Cue.

Visualizing Cues:

To begin Visualizing Cue 40, we'll select any cell in Cue 40's row, right click and select "*Visualize Cue" (or select any cell and press Ctrl+Shift+R [R for Render since V is already used]).

The result is shown below.  From here we could use the Previous Cue and Next Cue buttons to Visualize other Cues.

Technical Trivia: Previous Cue will always take you to the Cue one row above the current Cue (not necessarily the previous cue numerically).  Next Cue will take you either to the Cue one row below the current Cue, or to a Linked Cue if the current Cue has a Link.
